SCRIPTURE: 1 Timothy 2:1–7
1: I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2: For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3: For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4: Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
5: For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus…
7: Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: PRAYER PROMOTES PEACE AND STABILITY IN THE NATION
One of the greatest responsibilities God has given to believers is the ministry of prayer. In this passage, the Apostle Paul urges Christians to make “supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks” for all people, especially for kings and those in authority. This instruction reminds us that the spiritual health and stability of a nation are closely connected to the prayers of God’s people. Praying for our leaders is a foundational call to action. Whether we agree with our leaders or not, Scripture commands us to pray for them. Our prayers invite God’s wisdom, righteousness, and peace into the affairs of our communities and nations.
Paul gives several reasons why we should pray for our leaders: It is God’s command (vv. 1–2); praying for those in authority is not optional; it is a divine instruction. God desires His people to stand in the gap for those who make decisions that affect society. Also, it promotes peace and stability. When leaders govern with wisdom and justice, people are able to live peaceful and dignified lives. Prayer can influence the direction of leadership and the welfare of a nation. God delights in believers who seek His will for those in positions of authority.
As we pray for leaders, we ask God to draw them to Himself so that they may lead with justice, compassion, and the fear of God.
ASSIGNMENT
Make it a daily habit to pray for our national, Church and community leaders.
PRAYER
Father, grant our leaders wisdom, integrity, and the fear of God in all their decisions.
